I've been here several times and the food is really good! The service is usually pretty consistent, but it's faster when you sit at the bar. This place always gets packed no matter what day or the weather outside. I've had the chips, salsas, guacamole, queso and several of the tacos. The fish and pork belly are my favorites. I've also tried the churro with the chocolate sauce, even though I'm not a big dessert fan. It was pretty delicious. I think the prices seem a little high for the size of the food. Also, the drink menu is larger than the food menu, which is surprising. I do like coming here, but for the price I can have a larger meal elsewhere.

This is an easy choice. Donkey offers traditional Mexican dishes in a world run by "Tex-Mex". One of the best table side guacamole's I have ever had - pair that with one of their original cocktails = pure gold. If it's a nice night or not too hot of an afternoon, sit on the patio for a nice touch.

Tasty tacos. We tried the pork belly, al pastor, and fish of the day tacos. All were good, but the pastor and pork belly definitely beat out the fish. The prices seemed reasonable and on par with similar tacos I've had in other cities. Chips and guacamole were good, but a little on the expensive side ($8 total). The guacamole was topped with radishes. I was a little skeptical of the radish, but I couldn't taste them. The restaurant itself had a hip interior, but was very, VERY loud. I don't like to yell, so I didn't feel like I could have a conversation. Next time I'd go back on a nice day and eat outside. Our server was not attentive either. We had to wait quite a while to order and to get our check. Overall, Donkey has good food, but falls short of greatness.

Great food, great beer selection, great staff, cool atmosphere. Outstanding overall! Super tequila selection if you are so inclined!!

Love modern interior design, tacos, and good drinks? This place will definitely be for you. This shop is an excellent addition to this area that merges Eastown and Heritage Hill. The food is up to par with its freshness, creativity, and unique flavors. The interior of this building is a suave modern industrial take that you see within the surrounding buildings of this neighborhood. It's all so very...cool. A couple things to take note of: - Their hottest hot sauce was actually spicy. Don't squirt the bottle all over your food or you'll scorch yourself. - The tacos they give you will not be flimsy. They will be stuffed with meat and goodness. - The margaritas are not for rookies. You will feel the tequila if you drink too much. - There are community picnic tables if you're feeling extra friendly. Our service was very quick, the food was to die for, and the drinks were full of tequila. I really could not complain at all. You won't be spending an awful lot either, so give this place a try when you want to experiment with something fresh and different.

Stopped in for dinner with some friends a few weeks ago, and it was okay. Their tacos are fairly tasty, but they are definitely overpriced--on top of that, we had somewhat lackadaisical service. Our server was indifferent, unfriendly, and inattentive. We waited a ridiculous length of time between each of her sparse and curt visits, yet somehow as soon as we pulled out our cards to pay, she was right there! The manager was nice, however, exchanging our horchatas for new ones because apparently the batch wasn't up to standard or something--we hadn't even commented, yet they quickly brought a new one before anything was even said. If it hadn't been for our server, this would have been 4 stars. Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future, but not anytime soon.

This place is fun for a group, especially if you can snag a seat on their awesome patio. Tacos are served family-style and they come up quickly. I like the pork belly and fish tacos and the ham torta (sandwich). The guacamole is amazing; we get it every time. The margaritas are really good, made with fresh fruit and juices and some even come in pitchers. They have a weekend brunch now, which I am super excited to try. Edit: Tried brunch! I got a breakfast burrito which was really tasty. My friends got a ham and egg torta which was amazing. The breakfast tacos were just ok.

Donkey is probably one of my favorite taco joints ever. It's constantly packed with people, and getting in and being comfortable is a real treat. The atmosphere is busy, but pleasant, and the wait staff are all seemingly friendly enough. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We started out with some delicious margaritas. I picked the Prickly Pear margarita and was very pleased. It was extremely bright pink and tasted like tequila and greatness. My friend got the classic margarita. We each ordered a few Taco de Panzas (pork belly tacos) made with seared pork belly, salsa cruda, white onions, queso fresco, and cilantro. They are so very tasty. They are small, and I wish I could eat about 800 of them. A tad bit expensive, and small, but you're paying for extreme quality. We also split an order of the Queso Fundido and I may as well have licked the pan clean. It was so, so delicious, made of house-made chorizo, roasted poblano peppers, queso chihuahua, and oregano. The stuff heaven is made of, I'm sure.

Fish tacos are the greatest! Try the tacos de papas verde too great as well! Pozole is amazing. Love the location.

Best tacos I've ever had and I'm slightly obsessed with tacos...had their crawfish and lamb ones that were amazing. Also had a strawberry kiwi margarita with jalapeño infused tequila that was great. We will definitely be back!

Fun and hip taco joint. Can be intimidating if you aren't from Hipsterville, but I am a young mom with two toddlers in tow and was tired of eating at places with kid menu items like chicken tenders and mac n cheese and wanted to try a new spot and hey let's be adventurous and let all the cool hipsters stare us loud and rambunctious tots down! It's one of those days when you aren't thinking properly as a parent. Anyway... To my surprise I felt comfortable thanks to our super sweet waitress who was more than accommodating. It's not exactly kid-friendly (no high chairs, bar tables everywhere, not a single padded anything so lots of opportunities to bump yo head if you were a little munchkin, and good luck with fighting for the only "booth" around the corner in the back). Nice of her to suggest cheese quesadillas for the kids (weren't on the menu--you gotta ask). The boys devoured it, the guac was on the spicy side so they alternated licking it and then making a face...didn't eat too much of it. Tacos were unique and above average--(tried the lengua, al pastor, and pork belly?), and service was great (I actually expected to be ignored since it was so crowded but wait staff was attentive and very hospitable). Overall, I think it was a good experience just not a place I would bring the kids often though it was definitely fun to people-watch. "Mommy, what's that?" "That is called a hipster, baby." "Oh."

I can't believe this is my tenth review ever. Yelp is so cool. Why did I not get into it sooner! Okay, review: Donkey is a favorite of my wife and I. However, we do have one rule: only dine/drink here if we're at the bar with Toby. (Exceptions are rarely made--only for a hardly-seen guest, an intimate birthday double date or if we're in a group that decides to go there. Even then, we try to get seats at the bar with Toby.) The reason for the rule is that this place is popular, and most people may be impatient with the time it takes to get amazing drinks. The food is usually always fast, but c'mon people--this place'll get you fucked up on Hamm's and tequila faster than my friend Avery--and he only looks Latino, he's actually half black, half whizz'ite. But I digress. (And we don't actually get "fucked up." That's pretty 2012. We just have a lot of fun...) Today: We have a splendid time with my little brother, bc we owed him a bday lunch. We got a cool guy who wasn't able to serve my wife her usual drink, because it was the first time he'd waited on us. Props to him and I'm sure Paul would be pleased with his dedication to the law. However, the at least thirty times that Toby has served us would have rendered this event un-had, if a time machine--or some type of "Toby Teleportation" device--we possessed. But, alas. Honestly, Toby deserves days off too. I admit that. If Kobe Bryant gets days off, Toby should too. Toby fucking rocks. Anyways, blah blah-- this place is amazing. The food and drinks are unstoppably good and Paul has done well to keep it not good, but great and build more into it with a fun take on Mexican food. It's the hippest, gastro pubby-ish, Mexican food wonderfulness you'll ever encounter in Grand Rapids. But most importantly, Toby works there.

The service is good, the food is great, the location is cool enough. I really like the place, I just wish there would have been a sign and parking is a pain if they are busy. But parking in this part of town is often a pain The food isn't truly authentic and the place is more if a watering hole for true yuppies and hipsters, but I dig it. It's refreshing Mexican food with some nice gringo touches

Authentic, delicious Mexican cuisine with equally delicious drinks. Not exactly the place to go if looking for Michigan brews, but their mixed drinks and classic Mexican beers are great. Awesome staff as well.

So I came back to give the ole Donkey a second try. Walking in, I found that I still dig the decor and ambiance; a reclaimed space with a modern twist. It has a hipster vibe but not in an obnoxious way. The place was tidy and bustling with people, which encouraging to see for the snowy day. I found an open table without any trouble and my server appeared just as fast. I ordered the Taco al Pastor with a side of guac and chips. Just like last time, the service was like Jimmy John's Freaky Fast. I ordered my food, looked out the window at a poor schmuck stuck in the snow, and then my food was in front of me. And holy guacamole- the guac is still AH-MAZ-BALLS- just like last time! Seriously, the most addictive guac ever crafted. I stayed with what they do best and got the Taco al Pastor this time around. I felt like they were missing some kick and they were a little on the small side, but all in all, pretty darn good. Next time I'll get 3 tacos instead of 2 since I'm a big eater. As drinks go, my husband got some kind of hot sauce-in-a-beer drink, which he wasn't wild about. He said it was sort of like a Bloody Mary, which aren't his thing. I got a can of Founders All Day IPA for like, $3 - Now that's how you start a Sunday Funday! My husband turned his frown upside down by getting a normal beer and all was right in the world.

I can't help but come to the conclusion that this is the expensive hipster taco joint. Say what you will, there are better, less pretentious places to grab an authentic taco for half the price and you can get it to go. After trying to like this place five different times over its short history, I won't be going back for the food or service. Sorry donkey I tried, it's not me, it's you.

I really wanted to fall in love with this place! They have an adorable patio and open seating...the kind of place you want to just go and hang out on a hot day and drink margaritas! Unfortunately that is the only thing I want to do here! I gave this place a couple shots and the tacos are not horrible but they are just not great, especially at the prices they are asking. I would much rather go to the west side and have my fill of tacos then come here for drinks. The chips are amazing though...they definitely nailed it! The guac is delicious...but for approx. $9 they could definitely serve a little more than what they do. My boyfriend ordered a shot of their house tequilas and said it was awful and compared it to bottom shelf tequila. The service was so so on each occasion. Was there once while there must have been a shift change and no one came to the table for 20 mins, when asked one of the servers if we could order drinks he said he would find our server...again a 10 minute wait so we just ordered from the bar and then left. Overall if your looking for a place to have a Marg and some chips, great...but if your hungry I would go somewhere else first!

I went back and forth on whether I should give Donkey 2 stars or 3. I'm not sure what the hype is about this place. Yes, it's a white building with no sign, so that only people who know about it stop there. No, the tacos are not that great. They have a young, hipster vibe as most trendy GR restaurants do. As someone else posted, I'd rather go back to Division St. for more authentic tacos. We went on a Thursday night about 7pm, and they were packed. We had a party of 6 and got a seat at the back of the restaurant fairly quickly. Our server was quick, friendly, and helpful. We ordered drinks and shots first. I tried the prickly pear margarita....it's a pink drink on the rocks. It just tasted like a sweet margarita to me, and was very tiny for $6. There was more ice, than liquid in my glass. We asked the server what type of tequila shot we should take. She recommended the Sparkle Donkey ($4/shot), probably the cheapest shot on the list. We appreciated that she didn't try to sell us the most expensive tequila. The shot wasn't bad-- it was caramel in color and flavor. Could have been worse. We started off with the queso fundido which was very cheesy and good, but as soon as it got cold, it congealed and wasn't as tasty. We also ordered chips and salsa which came with 3 salsas---one dark red, smoky salsa, one green salsa, and one yellow, very spicy salsa. I only liked the flavor of the green salsa, but all of them were too spicy for me! Little did we know that every time we ordered a refill of chips, they charged us $3! Between 6 people, we paid $9 for chips. That's ridiculous! They should have told us that they charge for refills! As for the tacos, I had one al pastor ($3) and one de pescado ($4). The pastor had no flavor, and the pescado was very fishy tasting. The tacos were very small and were served on one tiny corn tortilla. Needless to say, I was not impressed. I'd much rather go to a small, hole-in-the-wall taco joint that serves authentic tacos and salsa (and spend half as much money!). The only time I would ever return to this restaurant is to drink with friends.....and I'd just order beer and shots of tequila.

Cool place to go, but not a lot of options in general. Would've liked more chicken options. Everything is a la carte which is ok but portions are very tiny. Drink menu was the best part and the outdoor seating.

This place is one of my favorites in GR. Awesome food. Amazing margaritas. Get there early or you will wait awhile for a table. Only wish they were a bit bigger to accommodate more people but this is a great spot and so fun in the summer. Get there and order the fish tacos.

Excellent! The way Mexican food should be done. True "street style" food done with a nice eclectic flare. Fish tacos (made with MI perch filets) were awesome. Seared pork belly tacos were also great. Their homemade corn tortillas are great - you'll find it hard to stop eating them. Also had their guacamole, fundido, Pozole verde, churros, and a few of their signature cocktails. Everything was delish! You won't be disappointed at Donkey!

Skimming through the reviews, I'm not quite sure why anyone thought Donkey Taqueria was going to be authentic or Beltline burrito size portions. No they don't serve refried beans and rice, the menu offers tapas style, luscious choices, with some intentionally smaller portions to share or just for lighter scrumptious eating! Sitting on the corner of Wealthy and Henry is a small casual refurbished filling station painted bright white and royal blue umbrellas, strings of throwback style open white light bulbs strung throughout the tables for a modern abance and serves up plenty of room for alfresco dining, the pic-nick tables fit 8-10 adults comfortably. The inside is equally as modern with a fairly large bar and friendly servers and tasty seasonal drinks! We only waited 30 minutes on a Friday night at 6:00 with a party of seven. The classic margarita is one of the best I've had serving up at a mere 6 dollar, not overly sweet, perfectly mixed and still having a great tequila flavor, on the rocks with salt. Our party ordered several different options, everything came out in a timely fashion, each unique and over the top flavorsome. Everyone enjoyed their choices, I tried the coctel de mariscos with poached shrimp and garnished with radish it was far the best I have ever had, it was extremely mouthwatering and I had asked for corn tortillas instead of saltine crackers which was not a problem with our server, she was pleasant and very attentive as well as the table runner. Simply plated, using glasses as bowls and small tin plates, we will defiantly be returning on our next trip to GR! Instead of describing everyone's meals, I'm just going to post lazy photos, and want you to know, they were as amazing as they appear in the pictures.

A little expensive and generic, but the food was great. Might be a little busy for dinner on the weekends, but you are able to order a drink and sit outside if the weather is nice enough.

Great tacos...get the beef tongue taco, you won't regret it. Margaritas and micheladas are also amazing! Definitely recommend this place, especially on a warm summer evening when they open up the entire patio!

I had the pleasure of eating here on a Friday night this past week. We had a party of 5 and luckily we arrived early so the wait was not long. If you're coming on a Friday night and you get there after 6:00, I would expect a long wait. I really liked the casual atmosphere and the food was served family style, which was really fun. The servers were attentive but aloof which makes for a really laid back dining experience. The table ordered chips and guac as well as the cueso fundido which were both excellent and one of every taco to try. I highly recommend the lamb and the beef tongue which were the resounding favorites among the group. Now, if you're not adventurous have heart- the beef tongue sounds like it would be weird but try and leave your reservations at the door it's so tender and delicious. We will definitely be back.

I like this place and I wanted to bring my out of town guest to enjoy some delightful tacos. We arrived at 8pm and the hostess would not put us on the waiting list because we had a minor in our party. (17 year old young adult). They don't allow anyone under 21 in after 9pm. Now I have to seek tacos somewhere else. -_-

I've been to Donkey around 10-12 times now. I keep coming back because I love their Prickly Pear Margherita, the Ensalda de Central, Pescado Taco and their circle Churros. It's sort of a bittersweet relationship though. I've had several situations happen that tell me they really don't care about their customers. I think it's best I list the reasons for clarification: 1. My niece is 3. Our server refused to give my niece a Taco with just meat and cheese. Seriously??? She's THREE. 2. On a separate occasion the hostess refused to seat our party because only 5 of our 6 were present 3. To be a hostess at one of the most happenin' places to eat in GR you really should be required to have some wicked good people skills. Last night our experience with the hostess was far from pleasant. She was very rude and seemed irritated we were even there. Donkey has a great ambiance, amazing margherita's and some delicious food. If only they would step it up on their customer service. It's 2015 friends. Customer service is crucial. Last night was my last time to Donkey for awhile. I'd rather spend my $$ somewhere I feel welcome and can have positive interactions with the staff.

What a place! A great place for Mexican food and drinks. I would recommend getting chips and either guac or queso. And my recommendation is not so much for the sake of just getting an appetizer, but to give you a chance to get to know their homemade sauces that they'll bring you. First try each on their own on a chip, then explore with different combinations of each. This way when the tacos come, you'll be a sauce pro in figuring out what to put on the tacos! Typically 3-4 tacos will put me in a very satisfied and content place. I've gotten the torta before and have been very impressed. One torta is filling, but an additional taco is okay if you're famished. The Mexican sandwich has a nice blend of textures and the savory nature of the meat and bread will couch all of the unique flavors that the sandwich has to offer. The meat of the tacos and tortas have always been tender, succulent, and flavorful. That contrasted with the taste and texture of the crisp fresh vegetables is joy in your mouth. While you're enjoying your taco or torta, don't forget to try some of their sauces on it! Service can be a little slow initially, but remember it's not a place where you're getting a quick bite to eat, it's a non-assuming place where you can have a memorable and delicious time with your friends.

The pork belly tacos are unreal. I haven't been able to stop thinking about them since we ate here. Also, the churros are a must have. The setting is very unique, but can get a little cramped and loud on a busy night. Overall, one of our favorite places to eat in Grand Rapids.

Went to this marvelous place tonite and it did not disappoint.. 1st it's a very friendly atmosphere.. they make their own tequila which taste just like tequila so that's cool.. altho we never ended up getting our chips because our waitress I feel was overwhelmed.. my boyfriend got 2 fish tacos and a Chorizo taco.. which were both amazing.. I had the beef tongue taco which I have never had but was rather tasty and then I had the lamb which was cooked perfectly.. but my favorite was the crawfish.. cooked to perfection and tons of flavor.. also the house made salsa was pretty on point..

The food was spectacular, but portions were rather limited in size. I got the special of two tacos and one domestic beer for $6. I ordered two of those specials but I still walked away a little hungry after eating 4 tiny tacos. I'm not a big guy- but these tacos are rather small. I did not appreciate the snarky bartender, whenever I asked a question it was met with this hipster eye roll attitude. It was constant throughout the evening. I asked to use the wifi and he just said in a matter of fact way- we don't hand that password out, we experienced problems with our wifi crashing when we used to. Sounds like a technical problem; how about your management decides to join 2006 and figure out how to give wifi out to it's patrons? If you're ok with the smaller portion size tacos (think about or less than the length of the palm of your hand) then you will like this place.

Food is excellent, and cocktails are fantastic... But service? Not exceptional. This is a great place to get a delicious taco if you are on Wealthy and don't mind waiting for a table. I had the Pastor taco and it was exceptional. Their chips and guacamole is quite good as well. My favorite thing on the menu is the Tortias... Delicious... I love tequila, and this place has a great selection to choose from. Their tequila flights looked fun, but I didn't try one this time (driving) but I will next time. The only issue I had was that the service was sub par... All the staff looked miserable and annoyed, which is a shame for such a fun little place.

Update: I came back and had a better experience then before. Drinks are delicious, as they were the first time I came, and food has much much better flavor and more authenticity in my mind then the first time I came. The last time I came they just had opened, so maybe a new head chef? Anyways, service was so-so not great not terrible. Also the food is very small portions at a very high price. The drinks here are the only thing that might make me come back again and again, kudos to the bar tender or whoever makes the drinks!

Stopped into Donkey with a friend one evening. Had heard great things about their food and we weren't disappointed. We got guacamole & chips for an appetizer; the guac was fantastic! We ordered several different tacos and enjoyed them all. The food was definitely great, but my favorite thing there was the Fresa Campos. What's not to like about jalapeno infused tequila & strawberry puree? Those are amazing. I need to get back there soon to have another!

It's good hipster "Mexican" food. Prices are high and definitely has a bar vibe. The best part for me is the fresh corn tortillas--so rare to find and worth it.

If you love tequila, tacos, and great service.... This is the place for you! The lamb barbacoa tacos are amazing!!!

Peach margarita is amazing and strong-beware! Flautas de papa is delicious, I get it every time. I've also had a special of the day pork taco that was excellent and a crazy good broccoli taco.

I cannot get enough of this place. Great tacos/tortas, and their classic margarita is pretty addicting.

When It comes to value I absolutely say this is a terrible place to bring a family. Small portions and high prices do not strike me well. Food is excellent but nothing is worth what they charge. When I spend 20 bucks I expect to be full not feel like I need to go to Taco Bell to fill the rest of the void in my stomach. Hope this helps.

Some of the best tacos that I have ever had!! Every time I come to GR, I have to go to Donkey. My favorite has to be the fish taco. Cocktails are also really good.

Third-best taco in Michigan, we heard, according to an MLive poll, or something like that. Yes, it's trendy and a little on the pricey side, but we knew that going in. Therese H. and I shared seven or eight tacos (the fish taco was my favorite), guacamole, sangria, and a dessert. The only thing I'd do different is to pick a table further from the super loud fan near one of the old garage doors.

This place is decent, but not at all authentic. If you're looking for that go elsewhere. Our table shared some chips and guacamole. The guacamole was fresh and didn't appear to be cut with sour cream or anything, and it had good chunks of avocado. The chips were warm and crispy, and not very greasy. I also started off with a Paloma. This was actually my favorite part of the meal even though I would have liked it to have just a bit more tequila. The drinks are fairly small for the price, but all of us seemed pretty satisfied with the taste. As for the meal, I had 2 tacos. One Al Pastor (marinated pork) and the other a fish taco. The al pastor had decent flavor and taste, but it really could do without the pineapple and use more spice! The fish taco was crispy, but not very warm. It also had a bit of a frozen and thawed too many times texture. The slaw that came on it didn't have much flavor, and the sauce they used was too liberally applied and bland for my tastes. Perhaps if I went in here and managed to get away from the flavors I'm accustomed to I'd enjoy it more. It's also pricey to the tune of 3-5 for 1 small taco. To each his own. Also, this place can get super busy and it's kind of a free for all on getting a table, so try and go on off hours.

Not a fan... at all. Went at a slow time during lunch on a tuesday to avoid the chaos that usually booms from the patio at night. I had the chips, taco al pastor, and the chicken tostada. The chips were good, but other than that so much disapoinment for the hype. Its not authentic, more of a fusion. and pricey! So expensive for what it was. I came, I saw, I said, "Ill go back to s. division"

Pro: tequila and !mezcal! lists are awesome. Atmosphere is nice for the spring/early summer weather --- great patio and the rehab'd building is cool. Con: aloof, goofy, not over-welcoming waitstaff. Food was meh and over complicated with ingredients. $8 for guacamole n chips... a bit pricey Probably won't be back anytime soon.

A trendy, yuppie restaurant that puts theme, atmosphere, and a false sense of exclusivity in front of quality food and service. The host was either incompetent or just didn't care about providing good service. We couldn't get an estimate on how long the wait would be after asking multiple times, and other guests were taking tables ahead of us. After all of this, I expected food worth the trouble. It wasn't. The tacos were passable, but not for the price. These are among the most expensive tacos in the city, but probably rank 5th or 6th in my opinion. I love what was done with the building, but the food and service just aren't great.

Literally the #1 restaurant I want to like the most in Grand Rapids. A good taqueria that serves booze and has some nice options? Too good to be true! Unfortunately it usually is. Tacos and other items are slightly hipper and upscale options of traditional Mexican items. Unfortunately although they tend to be consistent, the execution falls short. Tacos are a single tortilla and never grilled enough as one might expect when being hand made and prepared. Much more similar to when Taco Bell was doing "street tacos". Bland and kinda underdone. The fillings are pretty good. Their al pastor is not being cooked on the rotating spit as far as I know, so not the Mexican dream food as I know it, and the pineapple is an ad-on instead of being grilled with the pork, but it's their best option in my opinion. Their habanero salsa is literally amazing. Best salsa in the city and almost spicy. But the big bummer for me is consistency. In the ~8 times I've been here they have been out of churros, pear margaritas, bread for Tortas and chicken for the Torta Milanesa. So about half the time I have come, they don't have something on the menu I want. That sucks. So mediocre tacos, bad tortillas and inconsistent menu options. But great salsa, great concept and good quacamole.

I visited Donkey-Taqueria on a beautiful Friday afternoon with some out-of-town friends. We ordered chorizo, fish, and pork tacos with chips and guacamole as an appetizer. Our food came out promptly and family-style ( the latter of which I wasn't expecting). The tacos were delicious, and the guac recipe is to die for! I enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and our server. I will definitely be returning to this establishment.

Fantastic. Ate twice in one week and wanting to return again soon. The Queso Fundido was exceptional, the service was stellar. As always the place was packed and the hostess took the time to let us know when 2 adjoining seats at the bar opened up so we could sit together. Its the small touches liek this that make a difference.

    (5)
  • Lila L.

The Queso Fundido is easily one of the best appetizers I have ever had. Get it! And it's $3! Loved the ritas. Careful with the Pozole. It can get spicy. Brody was a great waiter. Really enjoyed DT!

Donkey Taqueria is a hip and delicious new addition to Eastown's restaurants. I admit, the first time we went there soon after their opening we were unimpressed. The guacamole with homemade chips was (and still is) to die for, but the tacos they were experimenting with were meh to bleh. However, our latest visits this year have been amazing experiences. Their guac and queso cheese dip with poblanos is a great start to the night. The margaritas are very tasty and well made, with several unique flavors like blackberry, prickly pear and blood orange. The carne asada and chorizo tacos are fantastic main dishes. The atmosphere is chic, loud and fun with good music for an indie fan. The only downside is the crazy wait and lack of waiting room inside, but after putting your name in with the hostess there's Winchester and Elk nearby to grab a drink until Donkey's text that your table is ready. Can't wait until the next time I'm back, and I'd recommend this for all looking for an excellent Mexican meal with friends or a date!

The food is good. Little expensive. Small corn shell tacos for 3-5 bucks a piece. The taste and quality is there but 3 tacos and a beer you've just dropped 20 bucks and wondering where the Taco Bell is on the way home.

  • Zachary K.

Visited during lunch time. It was not busy at all. The chili rellenos was pretty good on a bed of arroz Mexicana. The tacos al pastor was ok, as the pork was borderline overcooked. This could be due to stupid health code regulations however. As another reviewer stated, the food came out really fast. The service was very helpful as well.

  • Walter A.

Fantastic guacamole and chips. I loved the guacamole because it is relatively dry and chunky the way my wife makes it. The pickled root veggie garnish was a nice touch. The salsa sampler was also very good and represented a really broad gradient in flavor and spice. They also had a really nice Caribbean ginger beer. The broccoli and bean flat taco was very tasty but the serving was slightly smaller than I had exoected. Great atmosphere as long as you are okay with hipsters oozing from every corner. Seriously the service was great and I will go back again.

This is one of our favorite places in town to go as a family. I just wish they wouldn't have made so many recent changes, I guess the last chef was just a bit more talented than the current one.

Delicious Mexican fusion food. Some of the best fish tacos in West Michigan - baja style. The calabacitas sandwich is excellent as well as the fried potato tacos.

Stopped in for a quick lunch based on the great reviews. Was not disappointed! Absolutely delicious! I had the lamb, al pastor, and pork belly tacos. Also the pickled veggies because they were only a dollar. Pork belly was my fav, followed closely by the lamb. The al pastor was good but not the best ive ever had, but clearly better than most. When i go back ill stick with the pork belly and lamb. Tacos came out freaky fast, were cooked and prepared right, tasted fresh and hot. If i still drank alcohol i would have gone wild on the most killer selection of tequila i have ever seen. Perfect lunch, ill be back for sure!

Stopped in on a Thur night around 10pm and it was a full house! Neat design inside and modern feel. Had a young, college, hipster type of crowd. Tried an app, taco, and soup. Lacked flavor for my taste bud palate but the service was quick. Wouldn't come again for the food but it's a nice little spot to meet up with friends to chill and have drinks avail. And there's no sign?! Just a white building that said open.

Amazing food and the best margaritas! The prickly pear is the best and is a bright hot pink color. We bring everyone here when they visit. We love the ability to mix and match tacos but the Barbacoa (lamb) are my favorite. The quest fundido is a must for an appetizer.

  • Lara P.

You can veganize your meal: tacos de papas verde, sin queso have the perfect amount of cilantro and the potato/sweet potato + onions combo is fantastic. I love the bright exterior and warm interior. Great design all around. Great food and location. Great margaritas! Yes, my mouth is watering.

Donkeys is a real treat. A true Grand Rapids icon...or perhaps in the works anyway. Tequila options here are probably the best in town. That's is just a fact. Very knowledgable staff and management can walk you through various options, flavors and experiences... Tequila that tastes like whiskey? Sold. Okay the food.... Awesome is a word that is so overplayed. But the food is awesome. Guacamole is to die for and rather addicting.... Tacos have a nice taste variety and are affordable. The meat is all treated with care and has a story/process behind it. This is quickly becoming a happy hour favorite... It's just hard to get a seat sometimes! :)

Good food. Over priced is the biggest factor. I love Mexican but this is Mexican with a hint of bourgeois. I could take this a few times a week but I hope that the food would be better.

Ya I'm sorry to say this place just did not do it for me. I saw the reviews and heard the buzz, but....its just meh... Maybe I'm spoiled living in Wyoming with all the good Mexican places and if I would have had this first I'd have been happy. This really isn't Mexican food....its more Hipster Mexican. Pineapple and mango's in tacos don't belong. The chips were barely salted and once they are cooled down the salt just rolls right off. Maybe if I wore skinny jeans, a faded AC/DC t-shirt and a sport coat it would taste better. I think I'll try somewhere else for Mexican next time.

This tequila taco bar is a great place for drinks and eats. The tacos were excellent especially the pork belly and mole chicken. I love how there is no sign and low key. The margaritas pitcher is delicious and not badly priced.

  • April G.

Delicious food, wonderfully creative margaritas, palomas, etc. Prices are reasonable, service is good. Chips aren't the best, but that may be a personal taste issue. It can be difficult to get in without a significant wait in the evening, especially if you're looking to eat inside as there is limited table space indoors. The lunch crowd seems to be much smaller though. It's one of our favorite places.

Had a couple recommendations from friends to check it out. We went and loved the food. The flavors were great, the seasoning was spot on, and the variety was well balanced. Some of the drinks, like the sangria, is a little strong. They have a great tequila selection that could get you in a lot of trouble. This place is always crowded and I have always eaten at the bar because there were no tables available. Do keep in mind that this is a taqueria, so while many have complained about the size of the tacos, they are actually true to its size, if not larger. But you will not be disappointed about the flavors and the options. The fish taco is at the top of my list and I really enjoyed the lamb as well. I recommend going with a group of people and ordering at least one of each. Take a bite and pass it around! And wash it down with tequila! Enjoy!

We ordered guacamole and chips, a tostada and two tacos to go. Everything was fresh, and the broccoli tostada was a successful break from the norm. Our food came out quickly and the bartenders gave us a little bit more info about the neighborhood while we waited. Would love to go back and enjoy a margarita or two on the patio!

Super fun and delicious- While it's true that Donkey isn't the most authentic, this is still Mexican food that is Americanized in a GOURMET way, not a Qdoba way... really great flavor coaxed out of meats and marinades and sauces, really nice offerings across the menu. Their mango margarita is a total winner, as are the pork and fish tacos- Yum! Just two tacos with their delicious fresh chips and guac will be a great meal- but save room for churros or fried ice cream :) So happy to see this added to the food scene in GR.

Fun spot in downtown area of GR. Food is incredible. You wont be disappointed. The place is busy on the weekends so go early, or be prepared to wait. They could do a better job on controlling the "outdoor" seating area. Stood in line for 1/2 hour waiting for a table to see 2 parties walk through the gate and sit at an outdoor table. After the second group did this we went to ask and were told outdoor seating is First come first serve. Hmmm, funny when we first checked in , and said we could sit outside that was never mentioned. Oh well the wait was forth it.

This place was fair. Cute patio area, cute idea. Kind of place where hipsters meet. We had the guac & chips for an appetizer, which was good. Got a veg taco and tostada and a fish taco and chicken tostada- none were wonderful. Drinks were pretty good. Maybe an off night on the food? The ice cream parfait was by far the best thing we ate, coconut ice cream with homemade blueberry jam and peanut butter crunch- yum. Service was fine. Overall, meh.

I only ordered from here because of their proximity to Elk Brewing. My party and I heard good things, but when we received our order, we were literally shocked by the serving size. This place was a complete rip off and you can do a lot better for yourself and any one of the dozens of great Mexican places in GR. I will never go back to this pretentious crap hole again.

    (1)
  • Matt M.

Food is out of this world original and full of flavor and spices. We have had the chicken Torta a couple times and it's like a Mexican chicken parmigiana sandwich. Their salsas are amazing and it's some of the best guacamole I've ever had. There isn't really any where to wait for a table and there is always a wait. The host forgot about our name on the list and didn't know what was going on. Food made up for it.... But make sure to keep asking when it's your turn especially if they are busy! Try the churro and chocolate sauce!!

  • Lola N.

No Tex-Mex here! It baffles me that some patrons say they went to this place and didn't get authentic Mexican food. What they meant by that is Donkey does not serve your typical Americanized Mexican food. Some people are seriously misguided, but my tastebuds are not. Donkey definitely spices up traditional tacos in a gourmet way, and it does an awesome job at it. Definitely get the lamb tacos. The fish tacos were also tasty. The fresh, flavorful guacamole was on point. The cocktails definitely hit the spot too. I currently live in New Orleans and in Chicago before that, so I haven't seen those prices for drinks for quite some time. The patio looks like a great spot, but Michigan is not always kind with its weather, so the summer night temperature was down in the low 50s, and that was not an option. It reminds me of Big Star in Chicago, which isn't a surprise, because the executive chef came from there. And for anyone who is complaining about the prices, Taco Bell may be more up their alley.

Without a doubt Donkey will be one of the hottest spots in Grand Rapids this summer. The balance is being struck between great flavored tacos and well chosen tequila. On our first arrival they were already at capacity, so we headed over to The Winchester for some drinks and apps. So what did we get? Tequila pre-gamers and some apps. They were great and got us in the mood for some of those amazing Donkey Tacos I'd heard about. After an hour and a half we got a table at Donkey and we all ordered various tacos. I had the Carne Asada, the goat, and the pork. Each were great. Not the best I've had in Grand Rapids but really good. Also, each were accompanied by some tequila, obviously... My only taco regret is that I did not also order the brussels sprout taco because it is so far from what I've ever tried before, next time I shall definitely have one! The dessert was also a great. Churros and chocolate sauce, it was amazing (although admittedly, my sweet tooth is pretty biased). I think they still have some work that can be done with bringing out more flavor in their food and a bit of work on the wait staff (who I assume are still getting used to things but can improve even on customer service points alone). I love the ambiance and the vibe and the deck this summer will be even more amazing, though I wonder about the availability of parking this summer. Many a block may be walked to get to this little treat of a restaurant.

The kitchen is falling short when it comes to serving inspiring dishes. The menu looks appealing, but the food is underwhelming in flavor. Any new establishment will have some obstacles to overcome. We should have waited until that has been remedied. Right now it barely reaching the "mediocre" level.

    (2)
  • Jack K.

Very noisy, mediocre service, over priced, (perch special, two pieces of perch slightly larger than your finger, a bowl of 5"-6" tortillas for $13!) Better eat lots of chips if you are hungry.

  • Amanda U.

This is a pretty good little taqueria, their food is better than the ambience of the space. I will say there booth seating is highly uncomfortable and long term sitting on stools is not very comfortable either. But hey, who cares about comfort lets talk about food. We got there around 5 PM and made it just before the happy hour cut off which was nice. They do a decent deal on their drinks. I kind of love that they have Hamm's on draft for so cheap. We got a sampling of the Tacos as well as the queso fundido to start and that was probably the best dish but I really enjoyed the fish taco as well. The pork tacos were decent and I appreciated that they were not super salty like some places. Overall the experience was good, and I would recommend for people to try it out.

  • Mitch M.

Great place. Ever heard if Big Star in Chicago? Much like their little brother.Awesome grub and drinks at fair prices. Short menu (great choices)-but ya don't need much at a taqueria. Tostada con Pollo would be my number one recommendation with either the classic or prickly pair margarita. No front sign-great dark ambiance- although thankfully its brighter than the Winchester so you can actually read the menu. Looks like when the warmer weather comes back they will double their seating with some killer patio space. I'm glad they opened so close to me because I will definitely come back quite a bit.

Haven't been disappointed yet. Quick service, outstanding food, strong margaritas. A nice place to eat outside and enjoy a summer evening. Try the fish taco...you won't be disappointed. Make sure you save room for dessert. The fried ice cream is worth the trip alone

A la carte menu vs. meals, so you can pick what you want and how much of it. Their margaritas are cool and trendy.

  • Jason M.

This place is awesome! They have a limited menu, but what is on the menu is fantastic! I love the tacos al pastor and their margaritas are killer! They have specials periodically that they post to their Facebook page and I've yet to be disappointed by one! They've added and taken away/adjusted their menu a bit since opening, but that's to be expected with a new restaurant. Highly recommend this place for great food, excellent and VERY fast service and a fun night on the town! Seriously, look out for their specials, they are always delicious!!!

    (5)
  • Kristin K.

I love the chips here! So good. The margaritas are very good too. I'm a frozen margarita kind of gal but these are delish! The classic, prickly pear, and mango are very good. I love the taco al pastor and pescadore. Above all else, I love the ambience of the restaurant!

  • Benjamin B.

Fantastic place. Great margaritas. Peach was particularly delicious.

    (5)
  • David B.

Super small expensive portions, so small in fact that they have no room for complexity on the taco. I had the pork belly tacos which tasted like they were from a can BBQ on a mini taco. I have read the reviews of this place and can't believe I ate at the same place as the rest of the reviewers. Don't get the pickled seasonal veggies, they are just random veggies, not seasonal, and are just soaked in vinegar. They did have some cheaper beer on tap, nothing new to east town though. Left hungry and bummed.

What a great spot...especially outside on a nice summer day...with awesome food, drink and service. Fantastic fish taco. Cold draft beer and cider...chips and guacamole through the roof. Watch the light red sauce in the old fashion squirt bottles...crazy good but HOT! Cannot wait to go back. A definite eat your way through the menu place.

I went here with with friend. We waited for almost 45 minutes but were presented with a menu and offered drinks. The host was great and told is that we were making progress. Friendly conversation and what not. It was rather frustrating when the managers friends came and were sat right before us. Great food and good service!

Visited a week ago and had a great time. Definitely a popular spot so get here early! Food was delicious and having menu items a la carte allows you to get the perfect amount of food. It is slightly pricey for a la carte, but these aren't your run of the mill tacos. Service was great too!

Great new taqueria that serves up quality Mexican fare with an upscale touch. Great interiors and attentive service. Start with their delicious guacamole and chips. I've had their entree sized salad twice. It's amazing vegetarian or with a protein. They often have a daily special which is worth checking out. Look for the lit open neon above their front door. There's no sign with their name and they don't have a phone. A delicious new addition to Wealthy Street.

  • Julia G.

I love Donkey Taqueria! Their margaritas are so good, not overly sweet. I highly recommend the whitefish tacos and pork and pineapple tacos. Their guacamole is made fresh to order and simply divine! A great place to meet up with friends. The staff is always exceptionally friendly, too.

  • Susie H.

Food is very tasty and original. Between the first and second time I went, they had some menu changes. Despite having a life altering tostada on the first visit, when I ordered the same thing on the second visit it was completely different! Perhaps it didn't taste as good because it's not what I was expecting, but it was definitely a letdown. However, I am hoping that as time goes on their menu stabilizes and continues to be a great spot to go.

Some girlfriends and I go at least once-twice a month. We absolutely love it. Although the food and drinks are wonderful , I have a friend that is vegan and there are not more then a couple options, and they have always gotten her order wrong, which at this point it is kind of funny. But regarless we keep going back because it is amazing! Best. guacamole.ever! And I could drink the chipotle sauce. Yummmmy!

Donkey tries really hard to be trendy but sacrifices customer experience by doing so. The hard wooden benches and stools without any back support are very uncomfortable. The two person high-tops are so close together that you can hear the entire conversation of the table next to you and it even makes it hard for the servers to deliver food. If you choose to drink water you have to pour it yourself (without ice) in a tiny glass that you have to keep refilling multiple times and the only silverware you're given is one fork which makes eating certain things difficult. As far as the menu, although the food selection was pretty small I guess it's decent if you're looking for more authentic food. The food came out quickly but ordering and getting our check took longer than necessary. Getting take-out would be the only way I would go back, but I don't see that happening.

Took my 2 year old here for dinner tonight. Really liked the atmosphere, the place had a really nice buzz to it. That being said, the atmosphere is not designed for kids, which is fine, but it says in the business notes on yelp that this restaurant is kid friendly. Despite that, my daughter seemed to enjoy herself. Service was ehh. Our waitress seemed friendly enough ... to other people. I was half way through my tacos when I heard our waitress explaining the house made hot sauces to the table next to me. At that point I looked around and every other table but ours had that sauce on it. There are two things I love on my tacos, fresh squeezed lime juice and hot sauce. They failed me on both accounts. I did receive a lime with my tacos, however, it was such a small sliver of lime it only covered part of one taco. I would have asked for these things if the waitress had waited 2 seconds. The food was fine. I only had a couple tacos al pastor, which were good but not the best in town. As another commenter mentioned the pork was slightly tough (possibly due to health code?). This may be a little nit picky but I thought the tacos were a little to full. I would like to try some of their other offerings in the future. What was really nice was having a cold beer with tacos. I can't stress enough what a huge plus this is. There are items on the menu I want to try so it is likely that I will go back, but the service definitely made me feel like I was intruding into their hip environment. For that reason I probably won't recommend it to anyone. A couple last thoughts, not kid friendly and if I could I would have given this 2 1/2 stars.

Food was ok. Margaritas were small but good. I went in there hungry and went out for hot dogs later on. The name does say taqueria so i cant really complain that i dont get any rice ,beans, salad or complimentary chips and salsa. I would better spend my money elsewhere.

Taco al pastor - pork shoulder tacos with pineapple, onions & cilantro.Taco de pecsado - battered white fish, salsa tatara, Rajas poblanos, onion & cilantro. Then the lamb tacos. My favorite was the pork but they were all good. No, not good, great! Queso fundido is amazing, smoky peppers and salty cheese melted and scooped with corn totillas. I liked the chipotle Sauce and salsa verde the best. Habanero was too hot for me

My husband and I were driving through GRap on our way from Detroit to Chicago and I'd heard about this place from a friend who lives in Grand Rapids. We were both in the mood for Mexican and Donkey did not disappoint. We were greeted warmly by Kelly, our server, who could win some kind of contest for cheerfulness. She laughingly asked us what we'd be drinking, rather than whether we were. My husband had the michelada. It was spicy and tasty. We started with guac (delicious and very fresh) and a special app of fried plantains with a smoked pepper sauce, scallions, and cream sauce. To be honest, we should have stopped eating then because we were full. However, we're from Chicago, and being full has never stopped a Chicagoan from eating. I got the eggplant sandwich, and agree with another review that the bread is too much for the sandwich. The flavors are delicious, and I found it better as an open faced sandwich, which is fine because it needed to be eaten with a knife and fork anyway. My husband got the chicken tostada. It was perfect in every way. Nicely spiced chicken with hints of cinnamon and clove, fresh lettuce topping, and it somehow didn't crumble at the first bite. In talking with our server Kelly, we found the restaurant has just opened. I can't believe everything is so polished for being open so briefly. We can't wait for our next road trip to return to Donkey!

Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Taco de panza and taco al pastor were easy favorites! We'll definitely be back soon.

I had a couple classic margaritas which were very good - didn't use a mix which was great! Ordered chips and salsa. I appreciated the salsas coming out in squeeze bottles as the do in true Mexican places. Ordered tacos de birria (goat) and de panza (pork belly). Both were excellent!! My bartender Chris was awesome and took care of me

So..... I really want to like this place. As another reviewer stated, it's a bit like Big Star in Chicago. I kinda agree, but if ownership really wants to follow in the footsteps of Paul Kahan, they should make the trek to the Windy City & have a few meals there. First off, they need to define the look & feel a bit more. They seem to be struggling with the "who are we" dilemma. The name appears nowhere. Let's figure this out! The salsas are in squeeze bottles forcing a basket of chips to use the bottles to experience the salsas or hot sauces that they might be. Awkward. The music? Angry Mexican. I don't know how else to describe it. Music sets the pace & dynamic of a restaurant. The choice just left me wondering who would've chose this diversion. CNN in the background would have been more comforting with my meal. Before I talk about the food, the real kicker. I have had margaritas all over the country. So I had high hopes, just like Big Star. The issue here? I ordered the house margarita which was described as choice of the Donkey silver or gold tequila, Grand Marnier & the sour mix. Before my very eyes the bartender poured some well tequila, generic triple sec & the rest. We had 5 margaritas & no choice of tequila or Grand Marnier in site. The owners may think that's a great way to save money, but if that's the angle, do it for people sitting at tables, where they don't see the deception. Very bad guys & girls! The food was good. A limited menu but a good start. They've got to fix a bunch to really make this work. To be so new, it also wouldn't hurt if management or ownership had some presence to welcome new guests. Are they that cocky to think everyone will just come? This place needs a personality, direction, and needs to make a great margarita with the ingredients we buy into. Otherwise there's doubt in everything from the house made tortillas to the house made salsas. If you deceive us in the foh, you're probably doing the same in the kitchen.

Not the place to go after moving for 14hrs straight. I entered Big Star, I'm sorry Donkeys at 11:17 pm. It was kinda quit but there was still about 15-20 people there. A lot of people were still eating. The Whole reason we came was to not eat out of a microwave for the first time in days and have a good solid meal. They advertise that they were serving till 12:00am . Well the employees must have wanted to go home early cause we were denied food service. There menu looked quite familiar too. bigstarchicago.com/menus…

This place may very well be my new favorite Grand Rapids restaurant. I had three great tacos; pork belly, white fish and pork shoulder. Fresh and full of flavor. A great lunch spot to get a delicious meal without feeling tired from a greasy heavy meal. I definitely recommend it to anyone. Pretty good vegetarian options as well.

Can I give 4.5 stars? The food is GOOD! It's not great by any stretch, but i'd for sure eat here like 4-5 nights a week and be satisfied. The service is wonderful. The space is cool. They do good work.

Enjoyed our New Years Eve visit. Love the space with a few caveats... It is Michigan. It is December. We walked in and found a 4 top table for our group. The table is high and there are four bar stools with no backs. There is absolutely no place to put your coat. Bar stools with backs (the stools at the bar have them) would be better. Also you will freeze your tushy off if you get one of the tables by the door... Love that this is a refurbished gas station. very cool. It will be even better in the summer. The garage doors will open on to a patio. The food was good. limited menu. Tacos, tostados, and tortas. Like 12-14 choices. There are a couple appetizers too. We tried the Fundido dip. Yum yum. We ordered a couple of tacos and/or tostados per person. They are delivered 'family style' and we were given small aluminum appetizer type plates. Awkward. Service...as previously noted is very friendly and reasonably prompt. Lots of Mexican soft drinks...including Coke light bottled in Mexico. Didn't get to try the libations. Lots of great Margaritas and Mexican beers. Sadly we couldn't try any of them as we had to go to work. We will come back but it is a drag to have to sit on or hold your coat in your lap.

Gave this a try with a friend and was shocked at the tiny size of the tacos and big price tag---literally they were like little junior taco Twinkies two maybe three small bites. Then we tasted one of the Mexican sandwich things that I can't remember what they call and it was okay but very bland. Because we were w a group we decided to try another sandwich thing but asked our server for a minor tweak to the sandwich that we thought would amp it up a little bit like peppers or a sauce or something. She returned moments later informing us that the chef would not change any of his recipes for any reason. We were told he wanted us to eat them the way he prepared them. So apparently The soup Nazi has changed over to Mexican food specializing in undersized tacos and bland sandwiches and has now become the taco Nazi. Overall it's another hipster addition to the neighborhood with overpriced undersized tacos and the taco Nazi watching nervously from the kitchen window to make sure no customer molests his enshrined recipes. The deck during the summer will be nice and I'll probably have a drink there.

We really enjoyed this place. It has a great interior, easy to hang out in, long waits at certain prime times though! Everything was tasty, it's more expensive than your typical mexican hole in the wall but if you want a night out with friends, it's a great choice!

I'm a transplant from Houston and will always be on the search for mexican food here in GR to rival the options Houston has to offer. This place gives Houston some competition for their authentic food and drink, compelling environment., and capable staff. Menu includes mostly tacos and appetizers, I highly suggest the queso flameado. AMAZING margaritas. Bar staff is ready and willing to surprise you or suggest a pairing with your meal. One of my favorites so far.

Do you remember how long it used to take to get online with AOL in 1996? That's how long it took for us to get served yesterday afternoon just for one round of drinks. The place wasn't that busy, plenty of tables open inside. I've been here once or twice before and had great service but yesterday was just really bad (and i'm usually not that picky about service). Our waitress could have been new or in training??? She was curt with us and just took forever to approach us. I think we waited about 15 to 20 minutes before she came to our table. The only thing we wanted to order was a pitcher of margarita (which tasted amazing by the way) but took around 20 minutes to get after ordering and much smaller than we had anticipated. It was actually a carafe so the word "pitcher" on the menu was misleading. We also received some totally dry week old limes with our drinks. I guess we should have just sat at the bar inside but it was so nice out that we wanted to enjoy the day on the patio. We didn't complain or anything but the manager came out and apologized and asked if she could get us something to eat on the house. It was a good gesture and we really appreciated that. Donkey does have a cool atmosphere and really good tasting food/drinks on the downside it's a little pricey for small portions and the service thus far has been either really good or really bad

My girlfriend and I went there last night for some drinks after work and possibly a meal. We had been there briefly before, so we were excited to actually sit down and take everything in. It was a great experience, we arrived around 6 and were able to grab a seat at the bar. She started with a grapefruit margarita and I had a beer. The thing that astounding was that everything on the menu was very affordable - looking back, I don't think anything was over $12. We had the chips and guacamole that had a really nice spice to it. Then she ordered another grapefruit margarita, and I went with the classic. For dinner we had a salad with pork on it (it was huge and very delicious), the lamb tacos (with a great broth) and a brussel sprout tostada. I can't remember the official names on the menu, but everything was very flavorful and just delectable. The night concluded with a churro and Mexican chocolate. Overall, it was a fun time with good drinks and solid food.

As a fan of What The Truck I have been waiting for this place to open so I could check it out. Went for dinner on a Saturday evening. If you like the truck, you'll like it here. The tacos are amazing with the added bonus of not having to sit on the curb to eat them. Real tables and chairs! I had the al pastor and the whitefish. The pork is a familiar munch that I've loved from the truck. I'm not much of a fish eater but the whitefish taco was . Wife got the goat meat and said it was very good-the meat was very tender. The service was excellent. Don't come here to get drunk-the drinks are small and-like almost every restaurant I go to these days-they could stand to turn the music down a notch (not much, just a little). The truck tacos sometime come with two tortillas which make them easier to eat sans table but can sometimes make them a bit dry. Here they used one tortilla so the all the flavors and textures balanced really well. We were able to park right out front, but I think we just got lucky. It's a good place-go check it out! quite good

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
